1812 Fanfare
According to your article War
Of 1812 Battles Collective Amnesia Of Two Nations (Oct. 10), the Americans finished the fighting “without gaining an
inch of territory.” What about Carleton Island, located in the St. Lawrence south of Wolfe Island and named after Guy Carleton, twice governor
of Quebec and governor-in-chief of British North America?
Carleton, the location of the
British-controlled Fort Haldimand
during the American Revolution, was taken by the Americans during the War of 1812 and has remained so ever since.

Apparently it is not quite correct to say
that the Americans finished the War of 1812 “without gaining an inch of terrritory.” (War of 1812 battles collective amnesia of two nations, Konrad Yakabuski, Globe, October 10, 2011) According
to Wikipedia at least, Carleton Island,
a small island south of Wolfe Island presumably
named after Guy Carleton, Lord Dorchester, first Governor General of British North America,
was the location of British Fort Haldimand at the beginning of the war. It was
taken by the Americans by the end of the war and has remained so ever since, perhaps a point that Canadians would like to
forget.
